Chad Murphy runs the USBC, the body that certifies and bans every bowling ball in America. Its own published bio says he spent 12 years working for the ball companies. The bio is still up.
The United States Bowling Congress approves or bans every ball sold in this country, and a ball that fails its specifications cannot be used in a sanctioned league or tournament, which means it does not sell. By the USBC’s published biography of its executive director, Chad Murphy joined Columbia Industries in 1998, moved through sales and marketing, became lead product manager for research and development, then in 2007 moved to Ebonite International. From 1998 to 2010 that is 12 years working for the ball companies, and in June 2014 he took the job that tests, certifies and revokes what they build.
None of that is an accusation. No court has ever said Murphy bent a certification, no lawsuit alleges a fixed test, and no document shows a single approval tilted toward Columbia or Ebonite. The plain name for what the records do show is regulatory capture, and it does not need a bribe.
